Every Man in His Night, Stillness No. 3 and Man and the Sea: a set of 3 wall art prints for the bedroom, 20x28 in (50x70 cm). A Victor Hugo quote on lavender stripes, a blue and lilac abstract painting, and a Baudelaire poem in the original French, with the night in the middle.

A quote, a painting, a poem

On the left, "Chaque homme dans sa nuit s'en va vers sa lumière" (every man in his night walks toward his own light), Victor Hugo's line in tall blue capitals over wide lavender stripes. In the center, Stillness No. 3, an original digital painting from our studio: a lilac sky above a deep blue mass that fades to black. On the right, Baudelaire's L'Homme et la mer (The Flowers of Evil, 1857), "Free man, you will always love the sea!", set like a book page on a cream background.

Blue and lilac run from one print to the next, which is what makes this purple and blue wall art work above a bed, just like on our homepage.

How much wall space does a 20x28 triptych need?

Three 20-inch-wide prints hung 2 to 3 inches apart cover about 5.5 feet: the width of a queen headboard or a sofa. Purple wall art for the bedroom, or lavender wall art for the living room.

Who painted Stillness No. 3?

Stillness No. 3 is an original digital painting by Heure d'été, created in our studio. It is only available from us, on its own or in this set of 3.

Is the set framed?

No: the three prints ship unframed, rolled and protected. 20x28 in (50x70 cm) is a standard size found in most frame shops.

A gift for a bedroom

For a housewarming, a wedding or Christmas: a whole wall dressed at once in blue and lavender, for anyone who loves poetry and the colors of the evening.

Beautiful words deserve beautiful paper

These verses are set to be hung: a chosen typeface, measured margins, white space worked around the text. It is this layout that makes you want to read them again.

The paper is an uncoated matte 170 gsm. Its surface stays slightly fibrous, the ink sinks in, the light spreads across it. You read it the way you read a book.

It is eco-friendly paper from sustainably managed forests, and printed as close to you as possible to shorten transport.

Hanging a poem is not the same as reading it once. The text stays there, you catch two lines in passing, and the day pauses for a second. It is a moment you give yourself, and offer to those who live with you.

There is a quiet pleasure in living with French literature in the original. The poem keeps the language it was written in, and with it the sound the writer chose, which no translation quite carries over. On an English-speaking wall it stops being decoration and becomes something with a little cachet: a piece of France you can read on your way past, every morning.
