Symbolism and Origin of the Card

This card is taken from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot, published in 1909 by Arthur Edward Waite and illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith. It is the most reproduced and studied tarot deck in the world: each card tells a complete scene (unlike the Marseille Tarot, which is more symbolic and abstract for the Minor Arcana), which has made it the visual reference for modern tarot reading worldwide.

A card of brutal but necessary rupture: it demolishes what was built on false foundations. As destabilizing as it may be, the Tower clears the way for rebuilding on solid ground.
