What is an Apollinaire calligram?

A calligram is a poem whose words are arranged to draw its subject. Guillaume Apollinaire made it a genre of its own: rain falls in slanting lines, a dove spreads wings of words. This calligram print prints it in black on cream paper.

Which poem does this monument come from?

From the Poème du 9 février 1915, sent by Apollinaire to Lou and published in Poèmes à Lou. The same poem contains the portrait Reconnais-toi. The print reproduces the extract drawn as a building.

What does the poem say?

The poet builds a temple in which Lou is the goddess: he dedicates a monument of words to her and says he is ready to sacrifice himself on its altar. A love declaration as boundless as passion.

Which size should I choose?
