Context of the work

A cat drawn by its own words: the text follows the spine, the tail curls into a loop, and you have to turn the page to finish the sentence. It is an original Heure d'été calligram, written and composed in the spirit of Guillaume Apollinaire's Calligrammes (1918): the poem is not his, the form owes him everything.

Is this calligram a poem by Apollinaire?

No. The text is original and belongs to no collection. The form is borrowed from Apollinaire, the inventor of the calligram: a poem whose layout draws what it tells.

What is a calligram?

A poem whose words form a drawing. Apollinaire made it a genre in 1918: rain falls in slanting lines, a dove has wings of letters. Here, the words make a sitting cat with its tail up.
