Context of the work

La Fontaine's most famous fable (1668) features a fox who, through pure flattery, persuades a boastful crow to open its beak to sing - and drop its cheese. A timeless satire of vanity and self-serving flattery, inherited from Aesop.

What is the moral of "The Crow and the Fox"?

The fable teaches that flattery always benefits the one who bestows it: the fox gets the crow's cheese simply by praising its singing, revealing vanity as an exploitable weakness.
