Context of the work

Henri Privat-Livemont (1861-1936) is one of the masters of Belgian Art Nouveau posters. Absinthe Robette (1896), commissioned by the Robette distillery in Brussels, is his most famous work.

Absinthe, nicknamed the green fairy, was the emblematic drink of artists and poets of the Belle Époque – Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Verlaine, Baudelaire were great connoisseurs.
