Context of the Work

Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a Czech artist living in Paris, is the central figure of Art Nouveau. The F. Champenois poster (1898) was commissioned by his main printer, who offered him complete creative freedom.

Mucha collaborated with the biggest names of his time: he created posters for Sarah Bernhardt, the Biscuits Lefèvre-Utile Company, and Job cigarettes.
