Context of the work

This print is the work of Ohara Koson (1877-1945), one of the masters of the shin-hanga movement, the revival of Japanese woodblock printing in the early 20th century. Koson is famous for his delicate representations of animals and flowers, combining the tradition of ukiyo-e masters with a more modern and refined sensibility.
