Symbolism and Origin of the Card

This card is from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, published in 1909 by Arthur Edward Waite and illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith. It is the most reproduced and studied tarot deck in the world: each card tells a complete scene (unlike the Tarot de Marseille, which is more symbolic and abstract for the minor arcana), which has made it the visual reference for modern tarot reading worldwide.

The last card of the major arcana: accomplishment, full circle, complete integration. The World celebrates a completed cycle, before a new one begins with The Fool.
