Context of the work

This 1932 print is signed by Hiroaki Takahashi, also known as Shotei, a prominent figure in the shin-hanga movement. The foothills of Mount Ashitaka, in Shizuoka Prefecture, offer a more intimate framing here, almost a woodland scene.
