This plate is taken from Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms in Nature), the masterpiece of Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919), published between 1899 and 1904. His plates directly inspired Art Nouveau - Mucha, Gallé, Guimard all drew from this repertoire of organic forms.
