About the Artwork

Louis Wain (1860-1939) was a British illustrator famous for his portraits of anthropomorphic cats. Towards the end of his life, his drawings became increasingly abstract and psychedelic, like this 1925 work which depicts a cat stylized with concentric and geometric patterns evoking gothic stained glass. These late works, long associated with mental illness, are now recognized as visionary artistic explorations. A unique collector's item.
