History of the artwork

Starry Night Over the Rhône is one of Vincent van Gogh's most poetic nocturnal paintings. Painted in Arles in September 1888, it depicts the Rhône at night under a starry sky, with the city lights reflecting on the water. Unlike The Starry Night painted in Saint-Rémy, this vision is softer, almost romantic: two figures stroll by the water's edge, the stars shine calmly. It is housed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
