About the Artwork

The Apple Pickers is a major work by Camille Pissarro, painted in 1888 in Éragny, a Norman village where the artist spent the last years of his life. Pissarro, the father of Impressionism, depicts peasant women at work in an autumnal orchard with a pointillist touch influenced by Seurat. The golden, warm autumn light bathes the entire composition.
