About the Artwork

The Seine at Argenteuil is a work by Gustave Caillebotte painted in 1892, during his regatta years on the Seine. Caillebotte, passionate about sailing and gardening, painted many nautical scenes with remarkable clarity and light. This composition depicts white sailboats on the blue water of the Seine, with reflections and light of photographic quality. More geometric and structured than Monet, Caillebotte brings his personal touch to Impressionism.
